Camino de la Plata: the winemaking heart of central Mexico

‍Camino de la Plata Wines is an oenological and cultural movement that follows the ancient Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, a historic route that today connects wine, land, and memory across three key states in the Mexican highlands: Zacatecas, San Luis Potosí, and Aguascalientes. More than just a designation, it is a way of understanding wine as a living expression of the landscape, the communities, and the history that inhabits it.

🌄 A terroir that defines character

The Camino de la Plata vineyards are located at an altitude of over 1,800 meters above sea level, on mineral-rich soils low in organic matter. This combination results in wines with natural freshness, good acidity, and a distinct sense of purity and minerality, traits that set this region apart from other wine-growing areas in Mexico.

🍷 A wine profile with identity

In general, Camino de la Plata wines are characterized by being balanced, expressive, and true to their origin.

• Red wines: crafted primarily from varieties such as Malbec, Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, they offer aromas of red and black fruits, polished tannins, and a fresh structure, with clean and elegant finishes.
• Whites: made from grapes such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, or Viognier, they display aromatic, citrus, and floralprofiles, with a lively acidity that makes them food-friendly and very pleasant on the palate.

Each winery brings its own style, but all share the same goal: for every bottle to be a reflection of the Mexican high plateau and its unique way of bringing wine to life.

🍇 Representative wineries of the project

The initiative brings together four wine houses that, while distinct in style, share a vision of quality and regional roots:

• Tierra Adentro (Zacatecas): One of the region's most iconic projects, featuring high-altitude vineyards and artisanal wines that deeply reflect the high plateau landscape. Here, wine, culture, and history intertwine—even offering experiences like vineyard tours and a museum.
• Pozo de Luna (San Luis Potosí): With wines of distinct elegance and precision, this winery is committed to showcasing the winemaking potential of San Luis Potosí from an authentic and personal perspective.
• Santa Elena (Aguascalientes): A family project that translates the tradition of the Aguascalientes high plateau into honest wines that stay true to the character of their land.
• Parcela (Aguascalientes): Represents a more contemporary and innovativeapproach, respecting its origins while pushing the boundaries of wine in Mexico.
